After years of hard work and effort, we can finally announce one of the most awaited actions of Etnia Barcelona Foundation: The inauguration of the Santa Yalla solidarity optical store was finally celebrated on November 17th.
Last week, our team traveled to Ziguinchor (Senegal) to move all the necessary material and equipment needed to inaugurate this very special optical store for all of us.
It was a week of hard work, but also full of very emotional moments.
The opening ceremony was held with very special guests: the entire team of women working in the optical store, members of other initiatives of the Santa Yalla platform, representatives of the municipalities of Viladecans and Gavà (project partners) and part of the Etnia Barcelona team. During the inauguration, we lived a very special moment with the speeches from Aitana Modolell, director of the foundation; and Fatou, director of the new optical store, offering signs of unity and gratitude to all attendees.
Our team planned daily trainings for the women of Santa Yalla, now in charge of managing the optical store. They learned about technical, financial, computer and sales aspects. Once finished, it was time to put all this knowledge into practice and start working on eye check-ups for the local people of Ziguinchor: they served more than 200 people in 3 days!
We are very proud of the excellent reception that SANTA YALLA OPTIQUE SOLIDAIRE has had, and we want to thank the great work done by both the women of Santa Yalla and the team of the foundation – We are a big family!
We also want to thank all the people involved who have helped us to make this project a reality. Our goal has always been to ensure that the Senegalese population has access to quality eye care, and thanks to SANTA YALLA OPTIQUE SOLIDAIRE we are one step closer to achieving it.
Thank you all! We hope to see you soon.
