“THEY ARE ROSES, SMILES, THE FUTURE”
To celebrate Sant Jordi (Saint George) this year, we decided to become involved in a social project in India and we gave very special roses to the entire Etnia Barcelona family.
These roses are handmade by women participating in the “Seed” professional training project, in which more than 1.400 women from different Hindu communities have been participating since 2012 to improve their work conditions.
This project has been carried out by Mumbai Smiles, an NGO that focuses its action on the pacific fight against poverty and for Human Rights in the slum neighbourhoods of Mumbai. Education, health and socio-economic development are the main framework of action for its projects.
They also promote education and awareness campaigns and actions for development to make aware and at the same time denounce the rights violations and exclusion that millions of people suffer in this city.
The Foundation is also going to collaborate in the “Future Smile” project starting this summer (dedicated to promoting further education and not just obligatory education, as well as the search for equal opportunities and a better quality of life for young people in the slums), providing a grant for the optometry studies of a young person of an underprivileged origin in Mumbai.
We will continue to inform you of the progress of this fantastic project. Thank you for coming and a very happy “Sant Jordi” to all.
