Looking into your eyes: Sant Vicenç dels Horts

We visit the Barcelona´s SANT VICENÇ DELS HORTS  town

On  May 12th we visited the Barcelona´s “Sant Vicenç dels Horts” town as part of our “looking into your eyes” project 150 boys and girls awaited us.

We started the session explaining the circuit we had prepared for the initial screening, to determine which children would need a proper eye test with opticians.

All the boys and girls went through the screening circuit testing:

a) Visual acuity.
b) With frontofocometer, those who already wore glasses
c) and colour and binocular vision.

The visual screening revealed those boys and girls whose eyesight was NOT as good as it should have been and who afterwards required examination by qualified opticians. If glasses were needed, we determined the prescription needed to be able to provide them completely free of charge.

We set up a spectacular display of Etnia Barcelona eyewear so that they could choose those they liked best and sent their optical prescriptions to Essilor, who provide the best lenses for each child at no cost whatsoever.

The screening circuit and tests were performed by a team of students and lecturers from the Terrassa School of Optics and Optometry, while volunteers from Etnia Barcelona helped them with their choice of frames.

Mounting and delivery of the prescription glasses was completely free of charge thanks to the generosity of the following opticians:

OPTICA ANDORRANA

OPTICA CLAR DE LLUM

MULTIOPTICAS TRILENT

Using them ensured that each of the boys and girls established a direct relationship with an optician for the fitting and follow up with their glasses, as well as for the guarantee, in case they break their glasses.

WE CHECKED THE EYESIGHT OF A TOTAL OF 150 BOYS AND GIRLS AGED BETWEEN 5 AND 16 YEARS OLD AND FOUND 57 WHO NEEDED PRESCRIPTION GLASSES.

Many thanks to our volunteers and charitable opticians.

And thanks to all of you who have enabled us to make this project a reality.
